About Me

My name is Brenda Arvizu and I was born in Cuidad Juarez, Mexico. I moved to Phoenix, Arizona when I was about 5 years old and have lived here ever since. I am the oldest in my family of 4 (2 brothers and 1 sister) and am a first generation college student. I graduated from Phoenix College with an Associate of Arts and am now attending Arizona State University (West campus). In addition, I had the opportunity to be a S-STEM intern at Phoenix College and will continue interning through the TRAnsfer to Interdisciplinary Natural sciences (TRAIN) internship at ASU. In May 2020, I plan to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and certificate in Biomedical Research.
I aspire to one day become a doctor and, specifically, specialize in the brain and pediatrics. In order to expose myself to a hospital environment, I currently volunteer at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. I've been here for 2 years and I've enjoyed every second. In The Zone, where I volunteer, I do crafts, play with patients, transport children and sometimes help with translating (I am fluent in Spanish).
A fun fact about me is that my blood type is B+ and, because of that, I always tell myself, “Be like your blood type, be positive”.
The quotes listed below are what I practically live by everyday!
  • “Any day above ground is a good day.” - Mel Bernstein
  • “Keep your face to the sun and you will never see the shadows.” - Helen Keller
  • "Accept the challenges so that you may feel the exhilaration of victory." - George S. Patton
